Amazon Data Services, Inc. is seeking an experienced Civil Designer to join a multi-disciplinary BIM design team. You will design data center site civil infrastructure, using Civil 3D to create BIM site models and align layouts with building designs.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of engineering experience.
• 4+ years using Civil 3D for Civil BIM content and site/campus layouts.
• Experience linking Revit workflows to Civil 3D for up-to-date designs.
• Experience creating and maintaining Civil 3D parts, structures, networks, corridors, and surfaces.
• Knowledge of building codes and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Design civil infrastructure of data center sites using Civil 3D to create BIM site models.
• Develop detailed Civil BIM models and site layouts aligned with building designs.
• Publish construction documentation for site and campus designs in a fast-paced environment.
• Create and maintain regional and global template documents for Civil 3D and Revit.
• Update and modify existing models, studies, and construction documents as required.
• Participate in design coordination meetings for clash detection and resolution.
• Work on concurrent projects in multiple geographic locations.
• Exchange information in a Common Data Environment (CDE).
• Record and report key metrics to management.
• Travel to data center sites for evaluations and surveys (1–2 times/year).

Job Overview

Amazon Data Services, Inc. is looking for an experienced Civil Designer with strong BIM skills to join a highly creative and efficient multi‑disciplinary BIM design team. The role focuses on designing complex data center sites, including campus planning, grading, drainage, stormwater management, site utilities, pavement, and building tie‑ins. You will work with Civil 3D and Revit, produce and maintain Civil drawing sets, and collaborate with internal groups, suppliers, and contractors to deliver high‑quality designs for Amazon‑owned data center facilities across North and South America.

Key Responsibilities

• Design the civil infrastructure of data center sites using Civil 3D to create and maintain BIM site/campus models.
• Prepare and develop detailed Civil BIM models and site layouts aligned with building designs.
• Publish construction documentation for site and campus designs in a fast‑paced environment to meet scheduled deliverables.
• Create and maintain regional and global template documents and content libraries for Civil 3D and Revit.
• Update and modify existing models, studies, and construction documents as required.
• Participate in design coordination meetings for clash detection and resolution.
• Work on concurrent projects in multiple geographic locations.
• Exchange information with internal and external customers in a Common Data Environment (CDE).
• Record and report key metrics to management.
• Travel to data center sites for engineering evaluations and surveys as needed (approximately once or twice a year).
• Maintain a positive, creative, and solution‑oriented approach.

About the Team

The Data Center Design Engineering team is a dynamic group of engineers and designers dedicated to creating innovative, efficient, and sustainable data center infrastructure. Working in a collaborative, inclusive environment, you will partner across disciplines and teams to refine designs, drive continuous improvement, and contribute to the success of AWS infrastructure services.

Basic Qualifications

• 5+ years of engineering experience.
• 4+ years of experience using Civil 3D for producing Civil BIM content, site/campus layouts, and construction drawings.
• Direct experience creating workflows that reference Revit into Civil 3D to capture the latest building design updates.
• Direct experience creating and maintaining Civil 3D parts, structures, pipe/pressure networks, corridors, and surfaces.
• Practical knowledge and understanding of building codes and safety regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• Experience designing sites from test‑fit through to site permit delivery.
• Experience directly related to the design or construction of data centers.
• Experience and knowledge applying Lean principles to design modeling and drawing production.
• Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, Bluebeam, Dynamo, RF Tools, CTC Tools, Smartsheet, and Procore.
• Familiarity with the BIMForum LOD Specification and best practices for BIM collaboration.

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary ranges: $116,800 – $160,000 USD annually (locations: Austin, TX; Herndon, VA; Seattle, WA). The package includes sign‑on payments, restricted stock units (RSUs), health insurance, 401(k) matching, paid time off, parental leave, and other benefits.
