Position Overview

The Manager, Civic Engagement, is responsible for leading a team of Senior AmeriCorps Members through an 11-month service-based program. The manager supports the implementation of volunteer opportunities and is an integral part of the volunteer team. This role involves overseeing engagement with First-Year AmeriCorps Members and leading Civic Engagement Service Events. The Civic Engagement Program Manager leads the Civic Engagement efforts for City Year Chicago, focusing on community partnerships, civic engagement, and expanding impact through collaborative initiatives.

Job Description

Responsibilities

Project Management & Community Partnership

  • Manage and implement 15+ civic engagement community and corporate service events, ranging from 10 to 1,000 volunteers, from August through June.
  • Partner with the Impact department to identify and secure locations for service events, building relationships with stakeholders.
  • Lead planning, design, setup, execution, and follow-up of service events, including beautification projects.
  • Conduct site visits and manage logistics to meet client, sponsor, and participant needs.
  • Set and monitor measurable deliverables for AmeriCorps members.
  • Manage the program budget and utilize resources efficiently.
  • Expand the Civic Engagement portfolio to reflect City Year Chicago’s mission.

CE Team Management

  • Develop, manage, and lead a team of Senior AmeriCorps members, fostering their development and leadership.
  • Identify and facilitate training on project planning, volunteer management, and other relevant areas.
  • Support members in understanding and complying with policies and operating structures.
  • Use performance management tools to set expectations and develop leadership potential.

Volunteer Engagement

  • Implement volunteer recruitment processes.
  • Ensure volunteers are supported with resources and guidance.
  • Oversee recruitment, training, and coordination of Service Reserves, a group supporting weekend service events.
  • Leverage the Service Reserves Program to build a pipeline of future Civic Engagement team members.
  • Build partnerships with community organizations and project partners.
