Base pay range

$12.38/hr - $19.10/hr

Purpose Of The Classification

Responsible for performing custodial duties, minor maintenance and other miscellaneous duties in order to ensure that municipal buildings and facilities are maintained in a healthy, safe and sanitary manner.

Essential Tasks

  • Maintains park areas; picks up trash and debris, cleans restrooms and office/break room areas meeting rooms and arena.
  • Assists in the light maintenance of the Civic Center.
  • Operates hand and power tools and equipment associated with building maintenance including buffers, vacuums, etc.
  • Performs cleaning and related activities such as removing snow or debris from sidewalks and stairs within the common areas of assigned building(s) and grounds. Spreads snow melting chemicals as required.
  • Performs setup and takedown of tables, displays, flooring and seating for meetings and events including pre-and post-event cleaning.
  • Performs other work as necessary and or as assigned.
  • Must report to work on a regular and timely basis.

Reporting Relationships

The Civic Center Maintenance Worker I reports directly to the Civic Center Maintenance Leader I.

The Civic Center Maintenance Worker I does not have any direct reports or supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

Training and Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred but not required. Previous custodial or maintenance experience preferred.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills: Good knowledge of manual labor work practices, methods, tools and materials of varied general maintenance work; and good knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the work. Knowledge of maintaining, cleaning and preserving a variety of surfaces; proper use of a wide range of chemicals and handling and disposing of hazardous materials with care. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions; ability to use various types of tools and custodial equipment; and the ability to courteously and tactfully communicate with fellow workers, supervisors, other members of the organization, and the public in giving and receiving information.

Physical requirements include frequent walking, standing and sitting; frequent lifting and carrying objects weighing over sixty (60) pounds; frequent reaching, handling and twisting; occasional balancing, stooping, kneeling, crawling and climbing; occasional lifting and moving objects weighing over 100 pounds; vision, speech and hearing sufficient to perform essential tasks. Punctuality and reasonable attendance is essential. Must submit to drug screening and fitness to work physical exam.

Licenses and Certificates: Possession of a valid Oklahoma Class D driver’s license is required.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work in this classification is primarily indoors. Will travel to other City locations as required. Requires ability to work nights, weekends and holidays as required.

Notice: This classification is a “safety sensitive” position as defined by the United States Department of Transportation drug and alcohol testing regulations, the Oklahoma Standards for Workplace Drug and Alcohol Testing Act and/or the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana laws. As a “safety sensitive” classification, you will be subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random testing. Marijuana is one of the substances included in the drug panel screening. Possession of a medical marijuana license will not excuse you from the testing process, or the consequences of testing positive for marijuana.
