Job summary

The City of Burlington, Vermont is seeking an experienced Safety Manager to expand and support a citywide culture of safe behavior and healthful working conditions. You will work with the Department of Public Works and Parks, Recreation and Waterfront to implement policies, training, and measurable safety goals.

You will monitor compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, coordinate safety committees, and serve as a resource for safety programming and insurance administration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational/Industrial Hygiene or Safety or related field.
• Two years of safety experience required; advanced training preferred.
• Valid Vermont driver’s license and 24-hour on-call availability are required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and improve the citywide safety strategy and structure with required committees.
• Develop safety objectives, policies, procedures, and training programs.
• Ensure compliance with VOSHA/OSHA, DOT, NFPA, and DMV driver regulations; coordinate inspections.
• Lead safety committees in high-risk departments and perform risk assessments.
• Prepare safety reports and metrics for leadership and insurance administration.
