Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Geography, Political Science, or a closely related field.
• Three to six (3-6) years of experience in a comparable position with a city, county, municipal organization, or similar office setting.
• Experience in planning and zoning, public administration, or a closely related field.
• Experience in a municipal or professional office setting.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Shape the community's future through planning, zoning, and development review activities.
• Receive and process land use applications and renewal requests.
• Research planning policies, development concepts, and zoning issues impacting growth.
• Collaborate with developers, city departments, and stakeholders during Development Review Committee meetings.
• Prepare detailed reports, analyses, and recommendations on zoning applications and development code amendments.

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Geography, Political Science, or a closely related field

Master's Degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Geography, Political Science, or a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

WHAT WE'LL NEED IN A CITY PLANNER - PLANNING ASSISTANT

Planner I Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Geography, Political Science, or a closely related field
• Three to six (3-6) years of experience in a comparable position with a city, county, municipal organization, or similar office setting
• Experience in planning and zoning, public administration, or a closely related field
• Experience in a municipal or professional office setting
• Valid driver's license

Planner II Requirements

• Master's Degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Geography, Political Science, or a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Six (6+) years of experience in a comparable city or county planning position
• Experience in planning and zoning, public administration, or a closely related field
• Experience in a municipal or professional office setting
• Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualification:

• AICP Certification is highly desired

WHAT WILL YOUR DAY-TO-DAY BE LIKE?

In this planning role, you'll play a key role in shaping the community's future through planning, zoning, and development review activities. Your day may begin by receiving and processing land use applications and renewal requests, followed by researching planning policies, development concepts, and zoning issues that impact the city's growth. You'll collaborate with developers, city departments, and community stakeholders during Development Review Committee meetings, helping identify solutions and opportunities for improvement while ensuring projects align with city standards. You'll prepare detailed reports, analyses, and recommendations regarding zoning applications, ordinance updates, and development code amendments, then confidently present your findings to the Planning Commission and City Council. Through every project, meeting, and recommendation, you'll help guide thoughtful development while serving as a trusted resource for city leadership and residents alike.

WHEN YOU'LL WORK

• Monday through Thursday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
• Friday: 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Please note that some evening hours are required to attend Planning Commission meetings, City Council meetings, and other city-related meetings as needed.

Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.
