Overview
Airports Systems Technician – monitors, troubleshoots, and repairs system equipment within the City of Fresno Airports Department, including baggage handling, water controls, energy management, storm water control, autoclave, access control, passenger boarding bridge controls, and related electrical equipment. Acts as the first line of defense for system outages and restores service in coordination with the Information Services Department and airport security hardware.
Responsibilities
- Respond promptly to system outages or impacts, troubleshoot issues, and restore service.
- Monitor, install, alter, maintain, and repair Baggage Handling System (BHS) controls, Domestic Water Controls, Energy Management Control Systems, Storm Water Control Systems, Autoclave Controls, access control system‑managed electronic doors and gate hardware, Passenger Boarding Bridge Controls, and other electrical equipment.
- Support and maintain field‑level hardware components of the airport’s security systems in partnership with the Information Services Department.
- Document work performed and maintain accurate equipment logs.
- Assist in the preparation of work schedules and coordinate with other departments as needed.
Requirements
- Two (2) years of experience with mechanical or conveyor systems, energy management controls, security system hardware components, people‑moving systems, or related systems.
- Valid California driver’s license, with proof required at appointment.
- Ability to pass a TSA‑mandated Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) and Security Threat Assessment (STA).
- Successful completion of FAA 10‑year employment history verification, including a criminal history check, is required for appointment.
- Must pass a department interview and a Department of Justice fingerprinting prior to employment.
Selection Process
- Written Examination (100% weight) – assesses reading engineering plans and specifications, maintenance knowledge, and principles and practices of airport systems. Must achieve a passing score to be placed on the eligible list.
- The written examination is scheduled for the week of June 29, 2026, and will remain open until filled or a sufficient number of applicants are received.
