Appointed by and responsible to the City Council, the City Manager serves as Hazelwood's chief executive and administrative officer. The successful candidate will bring:
A bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, finance, urban planning, or a closely related field is preferred. A master’s degree and ICMA Credentialed Manager designation are desirable. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
Candidates should have at least five years of progressively responsible municipal or public-sector leadership experience, preferably as a city or county manager, assistant or deputy manager, or department director with broad administrative responsibility.
Located in northwest St. Louis County, Hazelwood combines the accessibility of a central metropolitan location with the character and affordability of an established suburban community. The City has a population of 24,849, covers just over 16 square miles, borders the Missouri River, and directly adjoins St. Louis Lambert International Airport. Immediate access to Interstates 170 and 270, U.S. Highway 67, Missouri Route 370, rail service, and the airport places Hazelwood at the center of the region's transportation and employment network.
Hazelwood is a major regional center for manufacturing, logistics, distribution, aerospace, and business services, while offering diverse neighborhoods, attainable housing, 16 community parks, recreation facilities, and strong community pride. Residents are served by the Hazelwood and Ferguson-Florissant school districts.
The anticipated salary range is $190,000 to $225,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience. The final compensation package will be established by contract with the City Council. The City offers medical, dental, and vision coverage beginning on the first day of employment and currently pays 100% of the individual premium and 75% of the additional family premium. Additional benefits include City-paid life insurance, paid time off, 11 holidays and two personal holidays, a defined benefit pension plan, long-term disability, employee assistance program, long-term care leave, tuition reimbursement, deferred compensation plan, and voluntary ancillary benefit options.
