The City of Box Elder is seeking a high-caliber Director of Engineering to lead the Engineering Department and oversee planning, subdivision development, and public works design and construction activities.

This position directs the operations of the Engineering Department, including planning directing, and coordinating engineering, subdivision development, and public works design and construction activities.
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.
Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions of the subunits in the division/department in order to direct and coordinate work within the division/department, usually interpreted to require five to seven years of related experience.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the state of South Dakota for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

The City Administrator and Chief Financial Officer assigns work in terms of department goals and objectives. The supervisor reviews work though conferences, reports, and observation of department activities.
This position has direct supervision over department personnel.

The work is typically performed in an office and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving part. Work may require the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
Work is performed in an office setting. Work is subject to travel to a variety of City locations. This position is classified as “Essential Personnel”.
