POSITION OVERVIEW:
Pick up and deliver freight between Service Centers and customers, supporting the selling process.
Essential Functions
- Operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles (and triples where applicable) and straight trucks.
- Perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections on equipment.
- Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from tractors and trailers.
- Handle freight using motorized and manual equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
- Secure freight inside trailers with pallets, straps, and ropes.
- Recoup/repair damaged freight as needed.
- Complete required documentation and reports.
- Comply with hazardous material regulations and procedures.
- Collect freight charges and maintain related documentation.
- Follow dispatch instructions and communicate regarding delays, arrivals, and equipment issues.
- Communicate with customers to determine pick-up/delivery needs and seek additional business opportunities.
- Provide internal and external customer service.
- Solicit additional business from customers and provide leads for sales.
- Perform chaining of vehicle tires if required.
- Perform duties of a road driver or dock employee as operationally necessary.
- Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Qualifications
- Possess a Class A CDL with double/triple, hazardous materials, and tank endorsements; automatic transmission restriction allowed.
- At least one year of recent experience or successful completion of FedEx Freight Driver Development Course.
- Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
- Meet all DOT regulatory requirements under section 391 of the FMC regulations.
- Ability to perform basic math and basic communication skills.
- Ability to lift/carry freight weighing up to 100 pounds regularly.
- Ability to sit for extended periods, and perform physical activities such as bending, twisting, and climbing.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
Working Conditions
- Drive in all weather conditions and on various roads.
- Exposure to noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes, and hazardous materials.
- Hours may vary based on operational needs.
- Hazardous Materials endorsement must be obtained within 120 days of employment.
