Job summary

City of Detroit is seeking dedicated individuals to operate city buses, ensuring safety, reliability, and courteous service to riders. The role includes pre/post-trip checks, fare collection, and route adherence, with CDL training support provided by DDOT.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, and a preference for applicants with two years of vehicle operation experience and a good driving record. Training lasts about 12 weeks, with pay at $22.00–$23.00 per hour during training.

Qualifications

• Completion of high school or GED required.
• Preferably two years of experience operating automotive vehicles as shown by a State Driving Record.
• Knowledge of traffic rules and regulations and the geographic layout of the city.

Responsibilities

• Operates motor coaches and opens doors for passengers.
• Transports citizens to and from designated stops and collects fares.
• Performs safety inspections and ensures vehicle cleanliness.
• Announces streets and stop locations and provides directions to passengers.
• Reviews route changes and completes trip sheets and accident reports.
• Assists in obtaining CDL permits and endorsements as required.
