Job summary

City of Detroit is seeking motivated Transportation Equipment Operators for the Detroit Department of Transportation (DDOT). You will operate city buses, perform safety inspections, collect fares, and provide courteous service to riders while maintaining records.

Training pays $22.00-$23.00 per hour for about 12 weeks; the agency supports CDL development. Required: high school diploma or GED; preferred: two years of driving experience; Michigan CDL with Group B, Passenger and Air Brake

Qualifications

• Completion of high school or GED.
• Preferably two years of experience operating automotive vehicles.
• Must have Valid Michigan Chauffeur license; CDL with Group B and Passenger/Air Brake endorsements.

Responsibilities

• Operates motor coaches.
• Opens doors for passengers boarding and exiting vehicles.
• Operates wheelchair lifts.
• Monitors fares and ensures correct deposits.
• Announces streets and stop locations.
• Provides information and directions to passengers.
• Maintains cleanliness of vehicle.
• Prepares and completes trip sheets and reports.
• Instructs students on equipment operation.
• Ensures vehicle service readiness and safety inspections.
