Job summary

The City of Birmingham is seeking an experienced Chief Architect to perform advanced professional and administrative architectural work within the Architecture Division of the Planning, Engineering and Permitting Department.

The Chief Architect supervises architects and plans exam staff and oversees design, construction and remodeling of City projects; resolves complex issues and manages contracts. Competitive compensation and benefits are offered.

Qualifications

Driver's license is required.
Licensed as an Architect in Alabama or NCARB licensure that leads to Alabama licensure within six weeks.
Experience managing a portfolio of multiple projects through all phases of design and construction.
Experience in procurement of design and construction services including bid and award.
Experience in compliance with federal, state, and local requirements (ADA, EPA, IBC).
Experience developing contract documents (owner-architect/owner-contractor agreements).
Experience coordinating activities and managing schedules of clients and staff through construction.
Experience using drawing software such as AutoCAD or Revit.

Responsibilities

Coordinate advanced/complex projects within the Architecture Division.
Oversee contract administration including public bidding and consultant work product review.
Perform administrative duties: reports, records, inquiries from the public and departments.
Supervise staff by assigning work and providing training.
Conduct periodic field reviews and site inspections.
Analyze property documentation for site development.
Make presentations to the Mayor and elected officials for Public Works projects.
