Job summary

The City of Manhattan, Kansas invites applications for Accountant I to support city-wide accounting and budget functions in the Finance Department. This professional role handles financial transactions, reports, and forecasting under supervision.

The position requires a bachelor's degree in finance or accounting and may require two years of budgeting or financial administration experience. Starting salary ranges from $56,640 to $67,959 annualized, DOQ.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or related field required or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Two (2) years of professional budgeting, accounting, or financial administration experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of GASB and GAAP encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Readies and maintains financial and business transactions with accounting principles.
• Assists departments in budget development and preparation, including capital improvement program.
• Prepares budgetary and financial reports.
• Interprets accounting records, reports, and statements.
• Performs general ledger reconciliations and data verification.
• Ensures compliance with applicable regulations; conducts financial research.
