Job summary

Robotic Technologies Automation in Columbus, OH is seeking a VDI Engineer to design, optimize, and support secure virtual desktop environments. You will work with Powershell automation, VMware Horizon, and Citrix Cloud to ensure stable map-oriented applications and geospatial workloads across geographies.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain scalable virtual desktop infrastructures to support geo spatial applications and tools, ensuring consistent access for enterprise users across units.
• Administer VMware Horizon environments to provide stable desktop sessions, optimize resource utilization, and reduce disruption for mapping workloads.
• Configure and manage Citrix Cloud deployments to deliver responsive access to map processing applications while maintaining performance and security standards.
• Develop and maintain robust Powershell automation scripts to streamline VDI provisioning, profile management, capacity checks and routine maintenance tasks.
• Monitor end-to-end VDI performance metrics, identify potential service degradation and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime for geospatial teams.
• Coordinate with infrastructure, network and application teams to troubleshoot incidents in VMware Horizon and Citrix environments, driving root cause analysis and remediation.
• Implement access control, patching and hardening for VDI components hosting geo-referenced data, in line with security policies.
• Document environment architectures, SOPs, troubleshooting runbooks and automation guides for consistent operations across teams.
• Collaborate with product owners to translate mapping requirements into VDI capacity plans and configuration baselines.
• Perform impact assessments and regression validation for upgrades or changes, ensuring continuity of geospatial workloads during transformation.
• Provide day shift operational support for incidents, requests and changes with clear stakeholder communication.
• Analyze incident trends and recurring issues to propose improvements and track outcomes to reduce disruptions.
• Mentor junior staff through knowledge-sharing sessions on Powershell, VDI best practices and geospatial support.

• Develop and maintain robust Powershell automation scripts to streamline VDI provisioning, profile management, capacity checks and routine maintenance tasks, improving overall operational efficiency.

• Analyze incident trends and recurring service issues across VMware Horizon and Citrix Cloud platforms, propose targeted improvements and track implementation outcomes to reduce future disruptions.
• Guide junior technical staff through knowledge sharing sessions focused on Powershell usage, VDI best practices and effective support of geo spatial applications to build a stronger delivery capability.
