JOB SUMMARY

The Citizenship Project is a special initiative of New York Historical's Education Division designed to help eligible legal permanent residents pass the civics test portion of the naturalization interview through on-site and off-site classes. The Citizenship Project Coordinator oversees all administrative tasks related to the ongoing schedule of classes and events offered by The Citizenship Project.


The Coordinator will conduct all administrative duties necessary to ensure classes run smoothly, students and educators have the resources they need, and partner organizations receive timely information regarding upcoming classes and events. The Coordinator will prepare a weekly email newsletter, keep The Citizenship Project website up to date, and represent the project at local community and immigration events. The Coordinator will also cover classes as needed.


This is a full-time position within the Education Division of The New York Historical. Regular work hours are Monday through Friday, 9am-5pm, but evening and weekend work will be required for outreach efforts and special event participation. Flexibility in scheduling is required, since most events are held during weekday evenings and on Saturdays, with the event schedule changing from month to month.


ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES


  • Oversee all administrative tasks related to the operation of The Citizenship Project classes, including but not limited to:

    • Maintaining and updating registration and administrative task spreadsheets

    • Communicating with students and prospective students in English and Spanish

    • Reserving classroom spaces and completing set-up memos for in-person classes

    • Preparing and sharing course resources with educators (including creating and sending Zoom links)

    • Updating class calendars in Google Calendar

    • Overseeing administration and distribution of museum passes for class participants

    • Preparing materials for in-person classes

    • Serving as the primary back-up Citizenship Educator, leading programs on an as-needed basis

    • Recording attendance and evaluation data, and preparing reports upon request

    • Conducting quarterly follow-ups with students to collect data on success rates at the discretion of the Manager

    • Translating program materials into Spanish as needed



  • Managing The Citizenship Project email list and creating a weekly newsletter;

  • Updating and distributing marketing materials, including flyers and handouts;

  • Conducting virtual practice citizenship interviews with students;

  • Maintaining The Citizenship Project website;

  • Representing The Citizenship Project at community and immigration events;

  • Supporting the Manager of The Citizenship Project in administrative tasks related to special projects.


REQUIREMENTS


  • Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree;

  • Bilingual Spanish speaker required;

  • Detail-oriented organizational, administrative, and written and oral communication skills required;

  • Knowledge of and experience working with immigrant communities in New York City or other urban areas with a high concentration of immigrants required;

  • Experience overseeing and administering complicated event calendars strongly preferred;

  • Experience conducting outreach on behalf of a non-profit organization strongly preferred;

  • Knowledge of the naturalization process, with a specific focus on the naturalization test is strongly preferred;

  • Previous adult education experience is preferred.

This position will require the employee to lift, bend, stoop, walk, speak and stand for up to 6 hours in a day.



COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The expected salary for this position is $52,000 per year.
