V Group Inc. is seeking a Cisco Unity Connection Migration & Upgrade Consultant to lead a production-facing migration and upgrade of four Unity Connection servers across two clusters. The project moves to OVA templates and upgrades to Version 15 SU4+ with careful cutover planning.

The consultant will plan, execute, test, and validate data migration, UAT, HA verification, and post-cutover support, coordinating with infrastructure, networking, and telecom teams on-site in Sacramento, CA.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience supporting Cisco Unified Communications environments.
• Strong hands-on experience with Cisco Unity Connection administration, migration, and upgrades.
• Experience upgrading Unity Connection to newer software releases in enterprise production environments.
• Experience with VMware virtualization and OVA deployments.

Position Overview

The CLIENT is seeking an experienced Cisco Unified Communications Consultant to lead the migration and upgrade of its production Cisco Unity Connection voicemail environment. The engagement involves migrating four Cisco Unity Connection servers across two clusters to new OVA templates on existing host infrastructure while upgrading the environment from Cisco Unity Connection Version 14 to Version 15 SU4 or later.

The consultant will be responsible for planning, executing, testing, and supporting the migration and upgrade activities with minimal impact to business operations. This includes data migration, system validation, user acceptance testing (UAT), high-availability verification, and production cutover support.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the migration of Cisco Unity Connection voicemail systems from existing deployments to new OVA-based virtual server templates.
• Upgrade Cisco Unity Connection infrastructure from Version 14 to Version 15 SU4+.
• Manage migration activities for:
• Four Cisco Unity Connection servers
• Two clustered environments
• Primary production servers located at the Downtown Data Center
• Secondary/High Availability (HA) servers located at the Branch site
• Develop and execute migration, upgrade, rollback, and cutover plans.
• Perform system backups, restores, data migrations, and post-migration validation.
• Validate cluster replication, voicemail functionality, messaging services, and HA operations.
• Coordinate with infrastructure, networking, virtualization, and telecom teams.
• Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and resolve issues identified during testing.
• Provide production go-live and post-cutover stabilization support.
• Document implementation procedures, system configurations, and operational handoff materials.
• Follow change management and security procedures throughout the project lifecycle.
• Troubleshoot and resolve deployment, upgrade, and interoperability issues.

Required Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience supporting Cisco Unified Communications environments.
• Strong hands‑on experience with Cisco Unity Connection administration, migration, and upgrades.
• Experience upgrading Cisco Unity Connection to newer software releases in enterprise production environments.
• Experience with VMware virtualization and OVA deployments.
• Knowledge of Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM) integrations.
• Experience with clustered and high‑availability voice messaging environments.
• Strong understanding of disaster recovery, backup, restore, and replication processes.
• Experience supporting production cutovers and migration projects with minimal downtime.
• Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Cisco certifications such as CCNP Collaboration, CCIE Collaboration, or equivalent.
• Experience working with public sector or government clients.
• Knowledge of Cisco UCS, VMware vSphere, and enterprise data center operations.
• Experience with voicemail migration methodologies and rollback planning.
• Onsite work is expected at the County of Sacramento facilities located at 799 G Street, Sacramento, CA 95814.
• Candidates may be required to support after‑hours maintenance windows, testing activities, and production cutovers to minimize business disruption.
