Job summary

Medix is seeking a perioperative nurse to provide patient care through the entire perioperative episode, developing individualized care plans and tracking progress to outcomes.

The role emphasizes patient safety, medication administration, adherence to Universal Protocol, accurate hand-offs, and education for patients and families. CNOR preferred; two-day schedule; on-site at the King of Prussia facility.

Job description

• Patient Care & Assessment: Assess patient status throughout the perioperative episode of care, develop individualized care plans, and evaluate progress toward outcomes.
• Patient Safety & Advocacy: Protect patients from injury, speak up with safety concerns, maintain a fire-safe environment, practice radiation safety, and enforce aseptic technique.
• Medication & Treatment: Administer medications safely using the 8 rights of medication administration. Perform interventions to maintain wound/tissue perfusion, normothermia, and prevent surgical site infections.
• Surgical & Facility Procedures: Perform counting procedures to prevent retained surgical items, handle specimens per policy, adhere to standard precautions/PPE, and comply with Universal Protocol, site validation, and time-out policies.
• Communication & Documentation: Provide accurate hand-off reports, document episodes of care clearly and timely, and communicate patient status across the continuum of care.
• Patient Education & Support: Assess patient/support person knowledge levels and provide education on pain, wound, medication, and psychosocial management while upholding patient rights and privacy.
• Teamwork & Operations: Participate in quality review projects, safety huddles, team meetings, and performance appraisals; delegate tasks appropriately according to legal standards.

Public - Required Skills

• Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Certifications (Must possess or obtain within 90 days of employment):
• Basic Life Support (BLS) or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), if pediatric care is within the facility scope
• Core Competencies: Strong communication, conflict resolution, problem-solving, and multidisciplinary collaboration skills.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to stand/walk for extensive periods, lift and carry up to 50 lbs, perform full range of body motion (handling/lifting patients), and work in a high-stress environment with exposure to bodily fluids and radiation.

Public - Preferred Skills

• Experience: 1+ years of OR and/or medical/surgical nursing experience.
• Certifications: Specialty certification in Perioperative Nursing (CNOR).

Public - Schedule/Shift

• Monday and Tuesdays primarily as they are the busier days, but possibility of being asked to come in on Wednesdays and Thursdays as well
• Must be able to commit to 2 days a week (Monday and Tuesday)
• Start time will vary between 7:30 am - 8:30 am and shifts will end around 4-5 pm depending on case load each day
• schedule is typically made a month in advance, but can change dependent on surgery schedule
