Job summary

Rollins College Olin Library is seeking a dependable Circulation Specialist to join its team. The role includes checking materials in/out, shelving, assisting library users, and maintaining fines records.

The position is full-time, 37.5 hours weekly, usually 4:00pm–Midnight, Sunday–Thursday, with possible summer variations. Employees receive comprehensive benefits and opportunities to engage with campus resources.

Qualifications

  • High school education is required.
  • At least two years of library, admin, or customer service experience.

Responsibilities

  • Enter user and item information into the electronic database.
  • Perform online transactions such as check-in/check-out of library materials, reserve materials, library rooms, etc.
  • Maintain orderly library collection, shelving materials, shelf-reading, labeling, and identifying materials for mending/binding.
  • Provide general information and assistance to library users.
  • Maintain records of fines and bills, collect fines, and handle petty cash accurately.
  • Maintain files and collect data from operations as directed.
  • Supervise and train student workers.
  • Open and close the library daily, including locking/unlocking the building.
  • Maintain library security, respond to alarms, and evacuate during emergencies.
  • Provide leadership for the Fox FabLab (makerspace).
  • Process interlibrary loan requests from Rollins users.

Job Summary

Primary responsibilities include
  • Entering user and item information into the electronic database.
  • Performing online transactions such as check-in/check-out of library materials, reserve materials, library rooms, etc.
  • Maintaining orderly library collection, including shelving materials, shelf-reading, labeling, and identifying materials for mending/binding.
  • Providing general information and assistance to library users.
  • Maintaining records of fines and bills, collecting fines, and is responsible for accurate handling of petty cash.
  • Maintaining files and collecting data from operations as directed.
  • Supervising and training student workers.
  • Performing daily opening and closing operations for the library, including locking and unlocking of the building.
  • Maintaining security for the library, responding to emergency door alarms, and evacuating the building in the event of emergency.
  • Providing leadership for the Fox FabLab (library makerspace).
  • Processing and filling interlibrary loan requests from Rollins users.
Minimum Qualifications & Education
  • High school education is required.
  • Requires at least two years of job related library, administrative, or customer service experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Knowledge of the organization of the library, along with basic library procedures and policies.
  • Skill in the use of a variety of computer software used in the library system.
  • Ability to read and understand alphabetic and numeric characters rapidly and accurately.
  • Demonstrated ability to employ strong customer service skills to provide friendly, approachable, responsive customer service at the library's main service desk.
  • Ability to follow written/oral instructions and work independently.
Work Schedule
  • The Circulation Specialist is a full-time, 12-month appointment, scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week, for a total of 1,950 hours annually.
  • Work hours are typically 4:00pm-Midnight, Sunday - Thursday (Friday and Saturday off). Schedule will be discussed during the interview process as summer hours will vary.
  • Overtime and/or weekend work may be required to support programs and department needs.
Work Environment
  • Campus-based, in‑person customer service role in an office environment.
  • Regular use of a computer and databases.
