Job summary

Integrated Power Services (IPS) – National Switchgear in Dallas, TX is seeking experienced Circuit Breaker Technicians to work in our climate-controlled Breaker Shop. You will handle high and low voltage breakers, perform rebuilds, testing, and field support, while following safety procedures.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, 2+ years’ breaker experience or 5+ years mechanical experience, and familiarity with test equipment.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; trade school/apprenticeship preferred.
  • 2+ years of 480-volt to 25kV circuit breaker experience or 5+ years of mechanical experience in an industrial setting.
  • Testing skills and understanding of electrical and mechanical testing procedures preferred.
  • Experience reading and interpreting schematics and wiring diagrams is a plus.
  • PEARL Certification, or equivalent skills/experience, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Work on low- and medium-voltage circuit breakers across major manufacturers (GE, Westinghouse, Powell, ABB, ITE).
  • Repair, rebuild, retrofit, test, and repair switchgear from low to high voltage; teardown and assembly of breakers and related apparatus.
  • Perform certified testing and document results prior to shipping.
  • Field support with occasional overnight travel to job sites for on-site testing and repair.
  • Follow safety procedures, PPE requirements, and keep a clean, organized work area.

  • Breaker Work: Work on low- and medium-voltage circuit breakers, including GE, Westinghouse, Powell, ABB, ITE, and similar manufacturers.
  • Repair & Rebuild: Troubleshoot, rebuild, retrofit, test, and repair low-, medium-, and high-voltage switchgear, including the teardown and assembly of breakers, contactors, and related switchgear and electrical apparatus, such as:
  • High-voltage switchgear up to 3000A, SF-6 Vacuum Circuit Breakers ATS, 13.8kV, 60Hz and 11kV, 50Hz
  • Medium-voltage switchgear up to 3100A, Vacuum Circuit Breakers ATS, 34.5kV, 4.16kV, 60Hz and 6/6kV, 50Hz
  • Low-voltage switchgear up to 3000A, Air Circuit Breakers ATS, 480V, 60Hz and 400V, 50Hz
  • Testing: Perform certified testing associated with rebuilds and document test results prior to shipping.
  • Field Support: Occasionally travel overnight to job sites for on-site breaker testing and repair.
  • Safety: Follow all safety procedures, comply with PPE requirements, and maintain a clean, organized work area.

Qualifications And Competencies
  • Requires a High School Diploma or GED; electro-mechanical training from a trade school, apprenticeship, or armed services preferred
  • Minimum of 2+ years of 480-volt to 25kV circuit breaker experience; or 5+ years of mechanical experience in an industrial, production, or large-component environment
  • Testing skills and an understanding of fundamental electrical and mechanical testing procedures preferred
  • Experience at an OEM breaker manufacturer a plus
  • Working knowledge of industrial mechanical engines, pneumatics, hydraulics, or diesel equipment is beneficial
  • Working knowledge of power systems, power circuit breakers, and other switchgear apparatus desirable
  • Must be able to correctly use tools and testing equipment, including Megger, digital multimeter, Hi-Pot tester, oil dielectric strength tester, multiamp relay tester, primary & secondary injection set, cable fault detector, and oscilloscope
  • Experience reading and interpreting schematics and wiring diagrams preferred
  • PEARL Certification, or equivalent skills/experience to become PEARL Certified, preferred
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry items weighing up to 100 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, and bend for extended periods
  • Acute hearing and a strong field of vision
  • Ability to work in physically demanding conditions, including occasional field/inclement weather environments
