Job summary

CityBeat is seeking an Arts, Culture & Events Reporter to own coverage of what Cincinnati is watching, listening to and experiencing. You’ll embed in Cincinnati’s creative community, handling arts, theater, live music, festivals and neighborhood culture with ongoing enterprise reporting.

You’ll report to the Community Editor and collaborate with CityBeat’s reporters and videographer, breaking news and developing real sources across the region.

Qualifications

• Experience reporting on arts, culture, entertainment, lifestyle or community topics — professional, freelance or collegiate
• Strong writing, interviewing and storytelling skills, especially capturing scene, voice and atmosphere
• Familiarity with Cincinnati’s creative community or a deep curiosity to dive in fast
• Ability to balance quick-turn daily work with longer-form enterprise reporting
• Comfort across platforms — digital, social and print
• Strong collaboration, communication and deadline management
• Flexibility for event-based coverage outside regular hours
• Sound news judgment and ability to produce fast, thorough, accurate reporting with minimal supervision
• Reliable transportation

Responsibilities

• Report and write roughly five BYLINES per week, with multiple interviews and sources
• Publish around two short news briefs a day — announcements, openings/closings, venue news
• Produce CityBeat’s weekly Things to Do in Cincinnati This Weekend guide
• Create at least one additional listicle per week on things to see, do or experience around the region
• Own the beat by identifying new guide ideas and evergreen topics for coverage
• Break news about the arts and cultural community and develop sources
• Cover visual arts, theater, music, film, nightlife, festivals, museums and neighborhoods
• Attend events and press gatherings across the region, including nights and weekends
