Job Description
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Practice safety rules.
- Follow verbal and written instructions.
- Use hand & power tools safely.
- Report to and assist the immediate supervisor.
- Perform quality work according to project specifications.
- Be accountable for all tools and materials at the end of your shift.
- Work well as part of a team.
- Measure distances from grade stakes.
- Drive stakes.
- Stretch tight lines.
- Grade stacks from lumber for reuse.
- Level earth to fine grade specifications with a shovel to assist in pipe laying and preparing subgrades and excavations.
- Assist in dumping concrete into forms.
- Erect shoring and braces, and paint pipe joints with sealing compound.
- Assist in setting pumps and well-points.
- May assist heavy construction equipment operators with aligning and moving equipment such as cranes, power shovels, and backhoes, verifying grades and signaling operators to conform to grade specifications.
- Direct truck drivers and scraper operators to dumping positions to maintain grades as directed by the grading or dumping foreman.
- Work in a concrete paving crew, managing concrete in front of finishing machines to meet grade requirements.
- Occasionally use small power tools.
- May serve as lead man in a labor crew.
- Exercise independent judgment to plan routine work, taking responsibility for multiple phases without needing detailed instructions.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Comply with the company's drug and alcohol policy.
- Pass physical examinations as required.
- Climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding, stairways, etc.
- Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and work at heights or in confined spaces.
- Carry tools and materials weighing up to 50 lbs., seeking assistance for heavier items.
- Stand or walk for extended periods on uneven surfaces.
- Work extended hours while wearing PPE, including respirators if required.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Some experience in industrial, construction, or general labor work.
- Post-offer drug/alcohol screening and physical evaluation.
- Complete a new hire quiz.
- Ensure no direct threat to health or safety in the workplace.
- Meet job site safety requirements (e.g., PPE, attire).
- Use safety equipment as required (hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, respirators, hearing protection, safety harnesses).
