Job summary

The University of Maryland, Baltimore is seeking a Laboratory Research Technician to join the Chu laboratory in the Biomaterials and Regenerative Dental Medicine department. The role involves performing routine and standardized biological procedures, including mouse colony maintenance (genotyping/animal husbandry), preparing common use chemical solutions, and overseeing lab safety compliance.

  • Prepares chemical solutions, media, reagents, stains, and buffers.
  • Assists in routine assays (ELISA, complement fixation).
  • Assists with sterile procedures and cell/tissue cultures.
  • Assists with animal colony management and genotyping.

Job description

The University of Maryland, Baltimore is seeking aLaboratory Research Technician to join the Chu laboratory in theBiomaterials and Regenerative Dental Medicine department. Alaboratory research technician is needed to perform routine andstandardized biological procedures, including mouse colonymaintenance (genotyping/animal husbandry), preparing common usechemical solutions, and overseeing lab safety compliance.

This is a Full-Time, 6-month, Contractual position.

Primary Duties:
  1. Performs routine biological procedures such as gelelectrophoresis, blotting, chromatography, and DNA extractions;chemical procedures such as simple synthesis, or product isolation,or biophysical procedures such as optical and kineticsmeasurements.
  2. Prepares chemical solutions, media, reagents, stains, andbuffers.
  3. Assists in conducting routine assays such as enzyme-linkedimmunosorbent assays (ELISA) and complement fixations.
  4. Assists with sterile procedures.
  5. Performs cell or tissue cultures.
  6. Assists with animal colony management, including genotyping.Collects, prepares, and processes specimens.
  7. Acquires images and data from biochemical or otherassays.
  8. Assists in conducting research on current scientific literatureusing computerized applications.
  9. Collects, records, and enters research data.
  10. Performs wipe tests, general housekeeping of laboratory, andoperation of laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, meters,microscopes, incubators, autoclaves, spectrometers, and gas andliquid chromatographs.
  11. Maintains chemicals and equipment inventory.

General knowledge of the principles and practices of natural and/orchemical sciences; of the safe and proper handling and disposal ofapplicable specimens, materials, and equipment. Ability to performlaboratory procedures using applicable equipment and techniques; tocommunicate effectively both orally and in writing; to usecomputers and related software applications; to lift, transport anddeliver materials and stock laboratory supplies and goods; to wearand work in personal protective equipment.

OTHER:

Except for qualifications established by law, additional relatedexperience and formal education in which one has gained theknowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance ofthe work of the job class may be substituted for the education orexperience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 collegecredits being equivalent to one year of experience.

Pay:

$23.97 per hour
