Required: A High School diploma or G.E.D. One to three years of relevant experience. Must be bilingual. Must demonstrate cultural competency. Must be able to travel. Must have a valid driver’s license.

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Salary Schedule: Per Approved Salary Schedule

Direct Report: Director of Special Programs

Terms of Employment: 10 months (211 days)

Eligible for emergency telework: With Supervisor approval

Purpose: Advocates for English Learner students and their families by removing language and educational barriers in order to provide high quality educational opportunities.

Essential Job Functions

  • Attend work in a regular, reliable and punctual manner.
  • To "telework" when requested by the District.
  • Consult with parents, administrators, counselors, teachers, and other relevant individuals regarding enrollment and school placement.
  • Provide parent activities to build upon parents’ ability to support their children with academic goals.
  • Facilitate communication with parents, students, and school staff by translating orally between the native language and English in meetings, consultations, assessments, and other interactions.
  • Communicate with parents of English Learner students and provide translation and interpretation services in order to discuss attendance, parent meetings, health issues, literacy events, and other school programs.
  • Refer parents to applicable community services for which they may qualify.
  • Keep accurate records regarding communications, student progress, and services provided.
  • Maintain familiarity with district processes for enrollment and communications between schools and parents.
  • Familiarity with various types of computer formats in order to translate documents within such programs.
  • Participation and interpretation for parent activities held by the District.
  • Attend raining for MAP/EOC testing, schedule testing, and translation for ELD students on the MAP test/EOCs as directed by the ELD Coordinator and the ELD Specialists.
  • Collaborate with other family advocates
  • .Maintain confidentiality regarding all documents translated, meetings attended, phone calls taken, or assessments given and only discuss with fellow ELD staff members when necessary to assist the family/student and in accordance with state and federal laws.
  • Other assigned duties.
