This is a non-represented position (no union affiliation) and is subject to the provisions of the Personnel Rules of the Municipality of Anchorage.

Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.

Example of Duties

This position supervises and administers the overall operation of facilities and programs at the Chugiak Pool. Supervises and schedules staff, volunteers, and the use of this facility. Responsible for overseeing the mechanical and chemical operation of the pool and recreation facilities. Plans, promotes, organizes, and conducts recreational aquatic programs and special events. Develops and maintains effective relationships with various community, government, education, and business organizations to promote community aquatic safety and recreation at the Chugiak Pool and throughout the Eagle River/ Chugiak Parks and Recreation Service Area. Develops youth and adult activities that promote fitness, healthy lifestyles, and recreation. Administers and manages facility safety program scheduling for staff. Other duties as assigned.

Additional Important Information

All applicants must possess and/or complete:

• Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License at time of hire
• American Red Cross First Aid Certification at time of hire
• American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification at time of hire.
• American Red Cross Lifeguard Training at time of hire.
• Certification as National Recreation and Park Association Aquatic Facility Operator or National Swimming Pool Foundation Certified Pool/Spa Operator at time of hire.
• Employment is conditional based upon satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160 and AS 12.62.400).
• Employment is conditional based on satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history.

If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional upon the submission of a current copy of the candidate's Alaska Driver's License, and a current (dated within 30 days from date requested) copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states, if the Alaska Driver's License was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history. If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160) and (AS 12.62.400). Accordingly, it will be necessary for the selected applicant to provide certain identification information and be fingerprinted. Fingerprint cards must be dated within 30 days from the date requested. The processing fee of $47.00 plus the cost of being fingerprinted (variable), is the responsibility of the selected applicant and must be accomplished before beginning work.

Effective October 1, 2026, the processing fee will increase to $50.00.

If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of current American Red Cross First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certifications or the equivalent.

If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training.

All required certifications and licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.

Military Service Interview Preference

Veterans or who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs recognizing the person as a veteran. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.

Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach proof of current service to the application. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual’s command organization and show the name, signature, title and contact information for the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
