Job summary

YMCA of the Suncoast seeks a Health Specialist Instructor to lead chronic disease programming, ensuring safe, effective and enjoyable sessions. You will be responsible for class preparation, music selection, and creating a nurturing environment while maintaining equipment and following YMCA guidelines.

The role requires CPR/AED/First Aid, plus certifications in applicable YMCA chronic disease programs and related trainings; strong communication and independent work skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years old.
• Certified in one of YUSA Chronic Disease Programs (e.g., LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, EnhanceFitness or Moving for Better Balance).
• CPR, AED and First Aid certifications required.
• Foundations of Listen First, Orientation to Healthy Living, Principles of Member Health and Wellness, Wellness Center at the Y, Group Exercise at the Y, and YUSA HIPAA trainings required upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Prepare room/exercise area before class.
• Choreograph and select music meeting YMCA guidelines.
• Create a nurturing and safe environment; report suspicious activity and maintain equipment.
• Ensure class safety and follow emergency procedures.
• Engage in positive public relations with members and model SMART.
• Cover own class when unable to attend; director may assist as last resort.
• Collect data for YMCA Chronic Disease Programs (attendance, waivers, health history).
