  • The applicant must read, complete, and sign all supplied forms, policies, advisories, and notifications.
Personnel
  • Employment with The Salvation Army is conditional upon compliance with the following instructions and performance standards.
  • The Kettle Worker position is temporary, seasonal employment requiring employees to work part-time shifts Monday through Saturday. Sunday duty is not permitted unless it is volunteered.
  • Work schedules are determined based on the most active customer traffic hours of each site. Therefore, Kettle Workers are not guaranteed full-time or a regular schedule or hours.
  • The Kettle Worker is to call their Kettle Coordinator as early as possible prior to a shift if they cannot be on the job so that a substitute can fill in.
  • The Kettle Worker is subject to the site Store Manager’s direction, who will determine the specific kettle stand placement and may discharge the Kettle Worker for exhibiting rude, reckless, threatening, or obnoxious behavior on the site premises.
  • Overtime is not permitted; do not work more than 40 hours per week.
  • Report work hours to the Kettle Coordinator each day. If a timesheet is provided, fill it out and give it to the Kettle Coordinator at specified intervals. Your time begins when you start work at the kettle site and ends when you turn in your kettle at the end of your shift.
  • Breaks: Employees are paid during scheduled coffee breaks. The employee is not paid during lunch breaks. Do not take lunch breaks between noon – 1:00 p.m. All breaks must be taken only at times specified by the Kettle Coordinator. Exceptions will be made for brief, infrequent restroom breaks.
  • If terminated or if you self-terminate before the end of a week, the final paycheck will be issued within the regular payroll cycle (which may be a week to ten days). All paychecks are issued from Salvation Army Divisional Headquarters in Seattle, WA.
  • Kettle duty requires that the employee must stand outdoors at the kettle in cold and sometimes windy, snowy, or rainy conditions. Special sitting accommodations will be permitted for individuals with medically certified physical disabilities.

  • Remain alert and attentive to customer activity. Smile and be courteous. Congenially acknowledge every contribution. Do not wear sunglasses, facemasks, or other obscuring items.

  • Smoking or chewing tobacco products is prohibited on Kettle duty.
  • Being under the influence of, or drinking, inhaling, or otherwise ingesting any alcoholic or psychoactive substances while on Kettle duty is prohibited and may result in immediate dismissal.
  • Reading, use of electronic games, tape players, CD players or any other distracting influences are not permitted while on Kettle duty.
  • Do not accept tips of money from donors. Observers may accuse you of pocketing funds intended for the kettle.
  • When taking breaks, do not leave the kettle unattended. If you leave the area, turn in the kettle at the store's Customer Service Booth for that period.
  • Do not take the kettle into the restroom or your car with you.
Fundraising Performance
