Position Summary:The Lower School Choral Music Director is responsible for developing and leading a dynamic choral program for students in grades 4 through 6. This educator inspires a love of singing, builds foundational vocal technique, introduces age-appropriate music literacy, and fosters ensemble skills in a supportive and engaging classroom environment. The director plans and conducts regular rehearsals, coordinates performances, and collaborates with faculty to integrate music into the broader school community; the director also collaborates with the choral directors at other school levels to strengthen the larger choral program.
Specific Duties Include:
- Plan, rehearse and direct musical experiences for the choral students with several performances per school year
- Oversee scheduling and other arrangements for the rehearsals and concerts
- Communicate with the student body and encourage participation in the choir
- Order all supplies and materials necessary for choral related activities in accordance with established procedures and budget allocations
- All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services
Required Skills:
- Experience teaching vocal music to students in grades 4-6
- Strong organizational and classroom management skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills demonstrating tact and diplomacy
Minimum Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in music, Masters Degree Preferred
- 3+ years’ experience in a school setting, preferred
- Independent school experience preferred, but not required
The Choral Director, Lower School position is an exempt, 10-month position. Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Benefits are substantial. EOE
