Job description

We are seeking a passionate and talented individual to direct our chancel choir and lead the traditional music ministry of our welcoming Christian church community. The Director is responsible for leading and developing the church’s chancel choir, guiding them in the preparation and performance of music for worship services and special occasions. This position requires an individual with strong musical skills, leadership experience, and a passion for enhancing the worship experience through choral music.

Responsibilities
  1. Musical Leadership: Direct the chancel choir during rehearsals and worship services, ensuring high-quality musical performance.
  2. Music Selection: Choose appropriate choral music that aligns with the liturgical calendar and enhances the worship experience.
  3. Rehearsal Planning: Plan and conduct one weekly choir rehearsal, providing clear direction and instruction to choir members.
  4. Musical Accompaniment: Play the piano and/or organ to enhance the congregation’s hymn singing and provide an uplifting worship experience.
  5. Collaboration: Work closely with the church’s pastoral staff, praise band director, sound technician, and others to coordinate music for services and events.
  6. Special Services: Prepare and lead the choir for special services such as Christmas, Easter, weddings, and funerals.
  7. Recruitment: Encourage and recruit new choir members, fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment.
  8. Administration: Maintain music library, manage choir budget, and coordinate logistics for choir activities and performances.
Qualifications
  1. Faith: Strong Christian faith and commitment to the mission and values of our church.
  2. Education: Education in music, choral conducting or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  3. Experience: Previous experience directing a chancel choir or similar musical group, preferably within a church setting.
  4. Musical Skills: Proficiency in playing piano, choral conducting, and vocal technique. Proficiency in playing organ preferred.
  5. Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate choir members.
  6. Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and administrative abilities, with attention to detail.
  7. Flexibility: Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of volunteers and staff.
  8. Commitment: A strong commitment to the mission and values of the church and a passion for worship through music.
Compensation

The average hourly compensation for this position is $25-$32, negotiable depending on experience and qualifications.
