Job description

The Chip Runner – Poker is responsible for selling and redeeming chips for poker players, maintaining an accurate chip bank, and providing general support to Poker Room operations. This position plays a key role in delivering prompt, friendly service while maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of the Poker Room.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Uses the assigned chip runner bank to sell and buy chips from poker players in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Balances chip bank at the end of each shift to ensure accountability and accuracy.
  • Answers phones and communicates current poker room promotions to guests.
  • Adds player names to the sign‑up board and pages players for available games.
  • Escorts players to assigned tables and seats as directed.
  • Maintains the cleanliness and presentation of the Poker Room throughout the shift.
  • Delivers fresh card setups to tables and removes used cards in accordance with procedures.
  • Updates jackpot signage to reflect current jackpot totals.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but may provide guidance or support to other team members.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion with sensitive information.
  • Knowledge of poker room operations and standard procedures preferred.
  • Must be able to accurately handle and count casino chips and currency.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to interact professionally and diplomatically with guests and team members.
  • High regard for guest service and team collaboration.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Additional coursework in hospitality or gaming operations is a plus.
  • Minimum of 6 months to 1 year of experience in a cash handling or customer service role, preferably in a gaming or casino environment.
  • Familiarity with poker room operations and casino cage procedures is preferred.
  • Ability to accurately transport and verify poker chips between the cage and poker tables.
  • Strong attention to detail, basic math skills, and the ability to follow procedures precisely.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a focus on guest service.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a gaming license in accordance with regulatory requirements.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS:

Must successfully pass a background investigation and obtain and maintain a gaming license issued by the Morongo Gaming Agency.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Must be able to read and interpret documents in English, such as instructions, guidelines, policies, and procedures. Must also be able to communicate clearly and effectively with team members, management, and guests.

  • Manual Dexterity: Regularly uses hands and fingers to count, handle, and transport chips and racks with precision and speed; must also complete required forms or documentation accurately.
  • Mobility: Continuously walks, stands, and moves between the poker room and cashier cage during the duration of the shift; must be able to navigate crowded gaming areas and respond promptly to chip calls.
  • Stationary Work: Rarely stationary; position requires physical activity throughout the shift with minimal seated tasks.
  • Tool Operation: May use chip transport carts, radio communication devices, and standard office tools for paperwork or verification purposes.
  • Visual Acuity: Requires strong near vision to identify chip denominations, verify accuracy of transactions, and complete transfer slips or drop logs without error.
  • Working Conditions: Routinely operates in a fast‑paced casino and poker room environment with exposure to loud noise, bright lights, heavy foot traffic, and a smoking environment throughout the property.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This is a dynamic, fast‑paced environment that requires the ability to adapt and perform under pressure. The casino operates with moderate to loud noise levels and is a smoking environment, requiring team members to work comfortably in these conditions.

WORKING HOURS:

Morongo Casino Resort & Spa operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year; therefore, flexibility in scheduling is essential. Team members must be available to work shifts that may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events. Schedules are subject to change based on business needs and may include overtime, as well as work on both weekdays and weekends.
