Job summary

VSS International, Inc. is seeking a Chip Box Equipment Operator for projects in San Benito County. This outdoors role on road construction crews requires safety, reliability, and teamwork.

The position is contingent upon being awarded the project and may involve shift work and exposure to traffic conditions. You will operate the chip box during chip seal operations to ensure uniform distribution of aggregate, monitor spread rates, adjust gates and speed, coordinate with distributor truck

Qualifications

• Must have good communications skills both written and verbal.
• Ability to prioritize multiple projects using organizational skills.
• Strong sense of responsibility and commitment to company goals.
• Capable of functioning under fast-paced stressful conditions within live traffic.
• Prior pavement preservation experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Operate and control the chip box during chip seal operations to ensure uniform distribution.
• Monitor chip spread rates and adjust gates, speed, and flow as directed.
• Coordinate with distributor truck operator and crew to maintain alignment and coverage.
• Maintain safe distance and spacing from distributor truck at all times.
• Communicate effectively with crew regarding adjustments, stops, or issues.
• Perform daily inspections of chip box equipment and report mechanical issues; assist with loading aggregate.
• Follow all jobsite safety protocols, traffic control procedures, and company policies; assist with general crew duties when not operating equipment.
• Maintain cleanliness of chip box and related equipment.

We are in need of Chip Box Equipment Operator for our VSS International, Inc . This opportunity is in San Benito County and contingent upon being awarded the project.

The ideal candidate will be a safe, hardworking, team-oriented person who is ok with working outdoors on road construction crews.

General Duties

• Operate and control the chip box during chip seal operationsEnsure uniform distribution of aggregate across the treated surface
• Monitor chip spread rates and adjust gates, speed, and flow as directed
• Coordinate closely with distributor truck operator and crew to maintain alignment and coverage
• Maintain safe distance and spacing from distributor truck at all times
• Communicate effectively with crew regarding adjustments, stops, or issues
• Perform daily inspections of chip box equipment and report mechanical issuesAssist with loading aggregate into the chip box
• Follow all jobsite safety protocols, traffic control procedures, and company policiesAssist with general crew duties when not operating equipmentMaintain cleanliness of chip box and related equipment
