Be a Guardian of Compassion for Our Beloved Chimpanzee Residents
At Project Chimps, our mission is to provide lifelong sanctuary and promote the well-being of chimpanzees retired from research facilities. We believe in creating a world where these intelligent and social primates can experience safety, care, and connection. We are seeking a passionate Chimpanzee Caregiver to join our dedicated team and make a profound impact on the lives of our cherished primate residents.
Position Overview:
As a Chimpanzee Caregiver at Project Chimps, you'll be a guardian of compassion, providing high-quality care to our chimpanzees in a safe and secure manner. Reporting to the Chimp Care Supervisor, you'll work closely with Caregiver Aides, other Caregivers, and our leadership team to create a nurturing environment for our chimpanzee residents.
Your Impact:
Your commitment to our values and mission will be evident as you actively participate in chimpanzee husbandry and care, maintaining meaningful relationships with our chimpanzee residents. Ensuring their well-being, safety, and security will be at the heart of your daily duties, and you'll possess and be responsible for keys to chimpanzee housing, ensuring a safe and escape-proof environment.
As you shift chimpanzees between different areas within their enclosures and serve their meals, you'll contribute to their physical and emotional wellness. Your role will also involve administering medications as directed by the veterinarian, cleaning and disinfecting enclosures, and recording and evaluating chimpanzee health and behavior.
Qualifications:
To excel in this role, you'll ideally have a degree in Primatology, Biology, Zoology, Animal Science, or a related field. Alternatively, a minimum of one year's experience in chimpanzee husbandry and care, including 6 months at Project Chimps, or a minimum of two years' experience in chimpanzee/great ape husbandry and care at other primate facilities will be valued.
Your superb interpersonal, communication, critical thinking, and decision-making skills will enable you to thrive in this role. Your ability to move/lift 50 pounds and work in variable weather conditions, combined with excellent organizational and time planning skills, will ensure that you can handle the physical demands of caring for our chimpanzee residents.
As a Chimpanzee Caregiver at Project Chimps, you'll experience a flexible work schedule, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays, as you work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. You'll be part of a team that actively promotes problem-solving and decision-making, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment.
Beyond the routine duties, you'll have opportunities to advance in socialization and introduction procedures, and even contribute to disaster response planning to protect our chimpanzee residents during emergencies.
Together, we can create a sanctuary of compassion and care for our chimpanzee residents. Join us as a Chimpanzee Caregiver at Project Chimps and make a lasting impact on the lives of these incredible primates.
