This is a non-civil service position. Candidates under final consideration will be required to complete a criminal background check and/or fingerprinting. All selected persons must complete a 6-month probation period.

Position Summary

The Family Division of the Circuit Court for Baltimore City seeks a Children’s Waiting Room Coordinator. The incumbent reports to the Associate Administrator of the Family Division.

Essential Functions
  1. Oversee and interact with children of all ages in a childcare-like setting.
  2. Plan activities to promote social, intellectual, and physical growth.
  3. Encourage cooperative social behavior through games, group projects, art activities, music, and interactive play.
  4. Maintain cleanliness of the Children’s Waiting Room and toys.
  5. Conduct semi-annual inventory of toys and art supplies.
  6. Maintain records and provide quarterly statistics to the Associate Administrator.
  7. Provide backup for front counter walk-ins and answer telephones when no children are in the waiting room.
  8. Assist with other duties as assigned by the Associate Administrator.
Education and Experience Requirements

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or G.E.D. certificate.

Experience: 3 years working with children in a daycare or after-school program.

Or: An Associate of Arts degree in early childhood education may substitute for two years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of child development and behavior.
  • Ability to plan activities for children of various ages.
  • Knowledge of caring for infants and toddlers not toilet trained.
  • Understanding of trauma and secondhand trauma effects on children.
  • Professional interaction with the public.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, challenging environment.
