Job summary

The Dallas Public Library is hiring children's librarians for several branch locations in the City of Dallas. Join a team that leads systemwide youth initiatives and develops programs for children and families.

Responsibilities include serving as a youth services expert, planning outreach to schools, coordinating summer reading, and training staff to deliver exceptional library services to children and their families.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience working in a library with program management, customer service, and collection development.
• Master of Library Sciences Degree, or a Master's degree expected to be completed within 9 months.

• Participate in planning and coordinating systemwide youth services programs and initiatives, including serving on work teams.

• Train coworkers in best practices for library services to children.
• Provide readers advisory for children and their parents.
• Facilitate the summer reading and learning program.
• Coordinate and plan outreach to schools, early learning centers and other children’s organizations

We're looking for librarians with training in children's services for several branch libraries in the City of Dallas. Children's librarians at DPL have the opportunity to be part of systemwide initiatives and take on leadership roles.

In addition to being part of the branch operations, children's librarians are also expected to:

• Serve as youth services subject matter expert and team lead in assigned location.

• Ensure that the designated children’s area is well-maintained and arranged to optimize use by children and their families

Experience

Two (2) years of experience working in a library with program management, customer service, and collection development experience.
