Job summary

North Idaho College’s NICChildren’s Center seeks an Assistant Classroom Teacher dedicated to early childhood development and creating a safe, engaging learning space for infants, toddlers, or preschoolers. You will work with the Classroom Teacher to support growth through play-based activities and individualized care.

You will observe progress, assist with assessments, maintain records, and build strong family relationships through daily communication while collaborating with staff and community

Qualifications

  • Requires High School diploma; ongoing education toward an Associate’s Degree within 18 months.
  • Six months related experience required; fingerprinting and background check completed before working with children.
  • Idaho STARS registration and CPR/First Aid certifications required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Classroom Teacher in implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum and hands-on activities.
  • Support daily needs of children and document progress through observations and records.
  • Collaborate with families, colleagues, volunteers and student employees to ensure high-quality early childhood education.
  • Create a nurturing, inclusive classroom environment that values individual differences and supports learning.

Job description

Assistant Classroom Teacher

Make a difference in the lives of young children every day. The NICChildren’s Center is seeking an Assistant Classroom Teacher who is passionate about early childhood development and creating asafe, engaging, and nurturing learning environment for infants, toddlers, or preschool-aged children.

In this role, you will work closely with the Classroom Teacher to support children's growth and development through hands‑on learning experiences, play‑based activities, and individualized care. You will assist with planning and implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum, support children in meeting their daily needs, and help create a classroom environment where every child feels valued, supported, and encouraged to learn.

You will contribute to observing and documenting children's progress, assisting with assessments and goal setting, maintaining accurate records, and building positive relationships with families through daily communication. Collaboration is an important part of this role, as you will work alongside colleagues, volunteers, community partners, and student employees to provide high‑quality early childhood education and care.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma required. Working towards completing an Associate's degree or Applied Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education (or equivalent defined as at least 60 college/university credits with at least 30 college credits in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Child Development (CD), EI Elementary Education (ElEd), or Early Childhood Special Education) plus a minimum of six months related experience is required. On‑going education toward an Associate’s Degree is required, with a completion deadline within 18 months.

Must successfully complete fingerprinting and criminal background check prior to working with children.

Required License and/or Certifications
  • Register with Idaho STARS and participate in the professional development system.
  • Maintain current Infant/child & Adult CPR and FirstAid.
Starting Pay Range

$14.93 - $17.17

Work Schedule

40hrs/wk between 6:30am-5:30pm M-F, summersoff (73% FTE)
