Childhood Lead Prevention Program Supervisor (General)

Salary: $52,698 - $57,905 per year.

General Definition

This is supervisory environmental health inspection work in the Health Department’s Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program. Employees in this class direct the activities of lower-level health inspectors performing environmental risk assessments designed to identify and curb incidences of childhood lead poisoning. Work includes the preparation of reports of findings and recommendations, and performing site checks to ensure conformance to EPA and other regulations for lead abatement. Contact with homeowners, tenants, and contractors to explain codes, ordinances, and regulations pertaining to lead hazards is significant to the work. Work is performed under the direction of a technical superior and contains some disagreeable aspects.

Minimum Requirements

1. CIVIL SERVICE STATUS: Presently employed by the City of Philadelphia with permanent Civil Service status in the Public Health Department with a performance rating of Satisfactory or higher.

2. EDUCATION: Completion of education equivalent to the twelfth school grade supplemented by the completion of the State of Pennsylvania certification as a Certified Risk Assessor for lead-based paint.

3. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Two years of inspectional experience in an environmental health program.

4. SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE: Two years of advanced level Environmental Health Inspector experience.

NOTE: An associate’s degree may be substituted for the general experience requirement.

Physical & Medical Requirements

Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required of a position in this class.

Required Licenses & Certifications

Possession of a valid proper class motor vehicle operator’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prior to and during tenure of employment as a Childhood Lead Prevention Program Supervisor.
