Job summary

VOA Greater New York seeks a Childcare and Recreation Specialist to help develop and run childcare and recreation activities for clients in a domestic violence program. You will support classroom operations, plan events, and coordinate with Case Managers to enrich sessions.

The role emphasizes program development, documentation, and post-event reporting, with a focus on creating a nurturing, educational environment for clients and their children.

Qualifications

• Minimum Qualifications: Associate’s degree and one year of relevant experience with a similar population or high school diploma or GED with at least two years relevant experience.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, publicize, implement, and facilitate support groups, recreational activities, special events and holiday programs.
• Assist in developing and implementing new programs to enhance clients' motivation through socialization and leisure skills.
• Coordinate programs with Case Managers to support enrichment sessions.
• Develop contacts for off-site activities.
• Assist in preparing and submitting written and statistical reports.
• Create an instructional environment that fosters learning and growth.
• Assist in classroom activities daily and evaluate student progress.
• Provide aftercare to clients in the program.

Position: Childcare and Recreation Specialist

The Childcare and Recreation Specialist is responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of childcare and recreation activities, classroom operations and programming appropriate for the client population.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Associate’s degree and one year of relevant experience with a similar population or high school diploma or GED with at least two years relevant experience.

Candidates with related experience with domestic violence preferred.

Childcare and Recreation Specialist Principal Responsibilities:

1. Plan, coordinate, publicize, implement, and facilitate support groups, recreational activities, special events and holiday programs. Update and post printed materials and encourage client participation.
2. Assist in the development and implementation of new programs aimed at enhancing clients motivation through socialization and the development of leisure time skills.
3. Coordinate programs with Case Managers to facilitate success of enrichment sessions.
4. Develop contacts with various sources for off-site activities.
5. Assist in preparing and submitting written and statistical reports.
6. Assist in creating an instructional environment that fosters learning and growth.
7. Assist in classroom activities on a daily basis.
8. Help to evaluate the student progress on an ongoing basis, maintaining necessary records.
9. Provide aftercare to clients in the program.
