Job description

Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Isabel Patterson Child Development Center Director (IPCDC), the IPCDC Cook is responsible for implementing a daily nutrition program for approximately 170 preschool and school-age children and 25 adult caregivers. Responsibilities include meal and menu planning for breakfast, lunch, snacks, food supply shopping, ordering, receiving, inventory, food preparation, cooking, and dispensing; cleanup, equipment maintenance, and organization of utensils and work areas. Additional planning is required for children with dietary needs or restrictions. The incumbent must adhere to Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) requirements, licensing, public health regulations, and program policies, including interaction guidelines with children.

The incumbent provides equitable, inclusive, and culturally sensitive services that enhance campus life, employing a student-centered and equity-minded approach in communication and service efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Preparation and service of breakfast, lunch, and snacks, including all food groups for Infant/Toddler, Preschool, and School Age programs.
  2. Planning menus on a four-week cycle, accommodating dietary restrictions for various age groups.
  3. Maintaining documentation and records in compliance with policies, safety, civility, and confidentiality standards.
  4. Kitchen maintenance, including sanitation and equipment upkeep.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Experience with instructing and training staff, meal planning, large-scale food purchasing, receiving, inventory, and detailed record-keeping. Preferred experience includes reporting documentation such as CACFP grant reports. Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse campus community and follow university policies on safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination. Contributing to a positive university environment and supporting the institution's vision of excellence is essential.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of two years’ experience in large-scale food planning, cooking, and distribution.
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.

Licenses / Certificates

  • California Food Safe Serve Certification required.
  • Valid CA Driver's license and auto insurance required.
  • Livescan background check required.

Compensation

This is an 11/12 pay-plan position, working 11 months/year with pay spread over 12 months. Salary depends on education, experience, and qualifications. The hiring range is $3,714 - $4,189/month. The CSU classification salary range is $3,405 - $5,340/month.

Time Base

Full-time, 40 hours/week.

Duration of Appointment

Temporary for one year, no permanent status granted. May expire earlier.

Physical Requirements

Medium work involving lifting 20-40 pounds, standing, squatting, kneeling, walking, and possibly pushing or pulling objects.
