Job summary

National Fitness Center is seeking a dedicated Childcare Attendant to supervise and engage children in the on-site childcare area. You will ensure safety, greet members, supervise check-in/check-out, and promote kids programs while maintaining a clean, welcoming environment.

The role requires CPR certification within 60 days, ability to work evenings and weekends, and a passion for fitness for families. Casual dress and opportunities for growth are offered in a member-focused setting.

Qualifications

• Minimum age requirement of 16 years old.
• Possess or be in the process of obtaining CPR certification within 60 days of hire.
• Prior experience with children, preferably in a childcare setting.
• Mobility to move about the childcare area and tend to children’s needs.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with patience and energy.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with members and parents.
• Willingness to work flexible shifts: evenings, weekends and holidays.
• No prior criminal convictions.

Responsibilities

• Play and interact with children in childcare, not just watch them.
• Never leave children unattended and enforce childcare rules.
• Greet members and assist with check-in/check-out procedures.
• Verify children are those of the enrolling member and supervise arrivals/departures.
• Provide exceptional customer service to members and children.
• Keep childcare area clean and safe, following supervisor guidance.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Childcare Attendants are stationed in the Childcare area of the Fitness Center, and must always remain there when children are present. Our members entrust us with what is most dear to them, their children. Therefore, we must always strive to ensure the safety and well-being of the children and put the members at ease with placing them in our care.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – WHAT YOU WILL DO:

• Playing and interacting with the children in Childcare (NEVER just sitting and watching them)
• Never leave the children unattended.
• You must abide by and always enforce “Childcare Rules” with no exceptions.
• Greeting members (introduce yourself if needed)
• Facilitating check-in and check-out procedures in Childcare. Be vigilant in children arriving and leaving the Childcare and verifying that they are the children of the member that is placing them in the Childcare. Members are not allowed to bring children into the Childcare who are not their own. If this situation arises, contact your supervisor.
• Providing exceptional customer service to our members and their children
• Keeping the Childcare environment clean and safe by performing daily and weekly cleaning tasks and routine maintenance surveillance as outlined by the Childcare Supervisor and/or Children’s Activity Director
• Assisting in promoting various programs (esp. kids programming) to parents
• Cleaning responsibilities that are outlined in the Children’s Programs Handbook and the Childcare Cleaning Checklist
• Attend and participate in required meetings and trainings as needed

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS – WHO YOU ARE:

• Minimum age requirement of 16 years old
• Possess or be in the process of obtaining Child/Infant CPR certification (must be certified within 60 days of hire)
• Prior experience with children, preferably in a Childcare setting involving programs, activities, etc.
• Enough mobility to move about the Childcare area to play/interact with the children, keep the environment safe and clean, and tend to the overall needs of the busy environment of the Childcare.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Patience and creative energy to work with children as well as a high tolerance for childhood behaviors
• Physical stamina to care for groups of energetic young children
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, work well under pressure and time constraints and displays positive behavior in all member interaction - kids and parents
• Willing and able to work a flexible shift: evenings, weekends, and holidays
• Passion for fitness/health/wellness industry
• No prior criminal convictions

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the team member is frequently required to walk and stand up to 8 hours/day and/or sitting for extended period of time. Team members may be exposed to cleaning chemicals or airborne particles and will be required to wear designated PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) as directed. Team members are occasionally required to use hands and fingers for handle or feel; occasional reach, push and pulling with arms and hands; occasional climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and occasional reach and twist, including side-to-side movements. The team member may be required to occasionally lift, carry or move up to 25 pounds and may seldom be required to lift, carry or move 26-50 pounds.
