Duties:
- Plan and implement Child and Youth Counsellor Programs to youth with early onset major psychiatric disorder.
- Maintain appropriate records and statistics for regular reporting.
- Confer and cooperate with other Child and Youth Counsellors, and treatment team members in the provision of comprehensive assessment and treatment services.
- Ensure a safe and therapeutic milieu within the unit, including management of crisis situations.
- Supervise Child and Youth Counsellor Students as needed.
- Provide coverage on all units (inpatients, partial and day treatment).
- Manage crisis situations and adhere to policy and guidelines for intake procedures.
- Lead and participate in groups with patients and families.
- Perform other related duties as may be assigned.
- Work in a manner that is in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of The Royal.
- Ensure a work environment that is conducive to the Royal’s Anti-Racism, Harassment and Discrimination Free Workplace Policy.
Qualifications:
- Child & Youth Care Advanced Diploma or Bachelor of Child & Youth Care.
- Experience in working with youth in “therapeutic milieu”.
- Ability to create and maintain therapeutic relationships with youth and to relate to other team members.
- Capable of working independently, while being a collaborative member of a team
- Experience in DBT treatment modalities and working with high risk youth preferred
- Willingness to work variable hours, and to be involved in all types of Child and Youth Counsellor Programs as set out by the Department/Program.
- Ability to develop, implement and facilitate groups.
- Possess up-to-date CPR and Safety and Security in the Workplace workshop.
- Ability to write and communicate effectively.
- Knowledge of computers/ability to learn computer skills appropriate to patient record keeping needs.
- English level A- is mandatory in oral comprehension, expression, reading, and writing. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset.
