Job Summary:

The Child Youth Behavior - Military Family Life Counselor (CYB-MFLC) provides in-person, confidential non-medical counseling services to military service members and their families. This program focuses on the psychological and behavioral health of military personnel and supports military children and youths. The position requires licensed professional counselors to offer support, resources, and solutions. The MFLC counselors collaborate across systems including Child Development, Youth Centers, Families, and Schools to build resiliency and address issues faced by military children, such as frequent relocations, adjustment challenges, stress, coping skills, and family hardships.

Primary Functions/Work Responsibilities:

  1. Consult with teachers, parents, and children regarding disruptive classroom behaviors.
  2. Provide face-to-face, non-medical problem-solving and solution-focused counseling to families and children when other resources are unavailable.
  3. Work with youths and teachers in classroom settings and group activities across various centers and youth programs.
  4. Engage with children, parents, and staff during events and in common areas to observe and support.
  5. Observe classrooms with teacher permission.
  6. Manage duty-to-warn and restricted reporting situations according to Department of Defense practices.
  7. Offer outreach during parent/teacher conferences and provide feedback and support.
  8. Use approved materials to address deployment issues with younger children.
  9. Collaborate with wounded warrior programs to support families coping with injury or disability of service members.
  10. Conduct educational presentations on topics like anger management and compassion fatigue.
  11. Interact with the military community during events and center activities.
  12. Support teachers, families, and students with deployment and reintegration issues, and address behavioral problems.
  13. Provide consultation to staff on child and work-related issues.
  14. Coordinate with installation POCs and caregivers to facilitate logistics and information exchange.

Essential Job Requirements:

  • Government Clearances: NACI, CNACI, and IRC.
  • Master's degree in a mental health field from an accredited program.
  • Must pass a minimum background investigation (MBI).
  • Meet the U.S. Military Departments' residency requirements.
  • Valid unrestricted counseling license/certification from Illinois (LCPC, LCSW, LMFT).
  • U.S. citizen or national.

Job Types: Contract, Full-time
