Job summary

The Oregon Department of Human Services is seeking a Child Protective Services Worker (Social Service Specialist 1) to join the Child Welfare team in Reedsport, Oregon. You will engage with children, families, and caregivers to ensure safety and positive outcomes for Oregon’s children, conducting safety assessments through an equity-centered lens.

Minimum qualifications include a valid driver’s license and a bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field.

Qualifications

• A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record are required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field.
• OR Bachelor’s degree unrelated to Human Services with 1 year Human Services experience or completion of coursework equivalent to certification.
• OR Associate degree with 2 years Human Services related experience or 1 year of Human Services related experience with related training or certification.

Responsibilities

• Respond to referrals, interviewing children, families and contacts.
• Observe home environments, conduct child safety assessments, and determine abuse/neglect with protective action when necessary.
• Develop service plans to meet the needs of children and families.
• Arrange medical evaluations, placements, and connect families with services and resources.
• Create reports, safety plans, assessment evaluations, case notes, testify in court, and communicate with diverse populations.
