Job summary

YMCA of Coastal Carolina is seeking a Lead Child Watch Attendant to provide daily leadership and supervision of Child Watch operations, ensuring a safe, nurturing, and welcoming environment for children and families. You will coordinate staffing, maintain attendance records, and uphold YMCA safety and Child Protection standards.

You will supervise staff, monitor activities, and build positive relationships with families, members, and coworkers while contributing to a high-quality member

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework in child development, education, recreation, or related field preferred.
• Previous experience with infants, toddlers, or young children in childcare, recreation, camp, education, or similar setting.
• Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
• Knowledge of age-appropriate activities, child supervision, positive behavior support, and basic child development.
• Strong communication, customer service, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to lead and support staff while building positive relationships with children, families, members, and coworkers.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and respond calmly in emergency situations.
• Current CPR, First Aid, AED certifications, or ability to obtain them within YMCA timeframes.
• Must pass background screenings and comply with YMCA Child Protection policies.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily leadership and direction to Child Watch staff while maintaining a positive team environment.
• Supervise children with safe, age-appropriate activities and maintain required staff-to-child ratios.
• Ensure proper check-in/check-out procedures and maintain attendance/records.
• Support onboarding, training, coaching, and ongoing staff development.
• Ensure compliance with Child Protection standards, safety procedures, and emergency protocols.
• Respond to behavioral concerns, injuries, incidents, and emergencies; complete required documentation.
• Maintain clean, organized, sanitary, and safe Child Watch spaces, toys, equipment, and supplies.
• Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and YMCA initiatives; assist with scheduling and coverage.
