Job summary

Virginia Office of the Attorney General is seeking an Assistant Attorney General for the Division of Child Support Enforcement in Chesapeake. This position represents the division in paternity determination, and in establishing, modifying, and enforcing child support obligations in state and federal courts.

The attorney will provide legal counsel, training, and guidance to the division, liaise with courts, and participate in continuing legal education and related projects.

Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of child support and family law.
• Excellent litigation, organization, research, writing, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to prioritize a large caseload and coordinate with attorneys, staff, and government officials.
• Clear communication, sound judgment, and discretion in decision-making.
• Ability to maintain records and prepare reports and correspondence.

Responsibilities

• Represents the Division of Child Support Enforcement in determining paternity and establishing, modifying, and enforcing support obligations.
• Litigates in state and federal courts on behalf of the Division.
• Provides counsel, legal services and training to the Division on cases, guidance, and procedures.
• Supervises legal administrative staff as assigned and participates in committees/workgroups as requested.
• Attends conferences and continuing legal education; develops training materials and completes special projects.
