Description of Work

This position is funded in part through federal funds.

Recruitment Range: $33,960.00 to $47,121

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest, most complex agencies in the state and has over 17,000 employees. It is responsible for ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of all North Carolinians. The Division of Social Services provides direct services that address issues of poverty, family violence and exploitation. We aim to prevent abuse, neglect and exploitation of vulnerable citizens, and promote self-reliance and self-sufficiency for individuals and families.

Title IV, Part D of the Social Security Act, the Child Support Services Section within the Division of Social Services establishes administrative procedures and financial accountability for core services: 1) Location of the Non-Custodial Parent; 2) Establishment of Paternity; 3) Establishment of Support Obligation; 4) Collection of Support Payments; and 5) Enforcement of Support Obligation. There are four units of organization in the Central Office and the Distribution and Collection Unit is located within the Central Operations Unit. This area is primarily responsible for approximately 4000 monthly financial adjustment request.

This Position’s Functions Include

  • Processing adjustment requests from local child support offices and the Centralized Collection Agency.
  • Identifying, distributing, and tracking all adjustment requests.
  • Researching and reversing errors and entering data into the Automated Collections and Tracking System (ACTS).
  • Processing financial reports.
  • Serving as back up to the receptionist, answering the phone, sending emails, worklists, etc. in the absence of primary receptionist.

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements

Associate s degree in Accounting from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of accounting experience; or High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of experience in accounting work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
