Child Psychiatrist- Psychiatry (10-24 hours per week)

The Village was one of the first agencies in the country toprovide homes for neglected children. Today, we continue to achieveour mission “to build a community of strong, healthy families whoprotect and nurture children” by providing a full range ofbehavioral health, early childhood and youth development, substanceuse treatment and support services for children, adults and familiesin the Greater Hartford, Connecticut region.

Starting annual salary $32,500 working 10 hours and $78,000working 24 hours per week commensurate with experience and you willalso receive a $10,000 sign on bonus.

It isnottypical for an individual to be hired at or near the top ofthe range for their role. Actual placement within range will becontingent upon a number of factors, including but not limited to thecandidate's qualifications, education, experience, internal equity andalignment with market data.

JOB SUMMARY

The Village for Families & Children, a non-profit agency over 100years old, in the Hartford-area, seeks a board eligible orboard-certified Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to support itsmission of helping to build a community of strong, healthy familieswho protect and nurture children. Psychiatrist must be comfortabletreating diverse cultural populations and enjoy being part of dynamicmultidisciplinary teams. It’s an opportunity to support children andfamilies in crisis, but who do not need hospital level of care, in amore nurturing and calming environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • 1. Clinical Responsibilities
  • Provides psychiatric assessment, evaluation, psychopharmacologicalfollow-up, and monitoring of children’s treatment in accordance withagency policies and procedures.
  • Works in a multi-disciplinary team in the assessment, treatmentand discharge of children who are cared for in the psychiatricUrgent Care Center.
  • Back-up to psychiatric consultants and clinical staff as neededincluding emergency situations.
  • On-call responsibilities via telephone as part of a rotation ofpsychiatric staff for after-hour emergencies.
  • Provides consultation and training to clinical staff as needed.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary teams.
  • Completes documentation as required by agency practices andlicensing requirements.
  • 2. Administrative / Management Responsibilities
  • Provides supervision of psychiatric consultants and APRNs, andclerical staff in the Urgent Care Center.
  • Continuous improvement and monitoring of implementation ofpsychiatric policies and procedures.
  • Participates in the ongoing development of standards for clinicalpractice at the Village.

3. Professional Leadership Responsibilities

  • Liaison to the medical community.
  • Liaison to the psychiatric community.
  • Liaison to the academic community.
Experience and Skills

EDUCATION

  • MD/DO from an accredited institution.

Licensure Requirements

  • Connecticut state professional license, and Board eligible/Boardcertified in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Cultural competency to serve African American, Latino / PuertoRican, and West Indian families.
  • Bilingual in Spanish a plus.
  • Experience in ER/consultation liaison psychiatry is a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to workcollaboratively with other. disciplines, including clinical andclerical staff.
  • Excellent assessment, diagnostic and psychopharmacologicaltreatment skills.
  • Strong dedication to workplace mentorship, education, andteam-based care.
  • Flexible and able to multi-task.
  • Proficient with word processing and spreadsheet applications.Possess solid general computer skills, including ability to work ina Windows XP environment. Familiarity with specific applicationsused by the Village a plus.
  • Physically able to perform the essential functions of the positionin a standard office environment, with or without reasonableaccommodations, and the ability to interact with children andadolescents in a therapeutic environment/situation without risk of injury.
