FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

SUPERVISES: CNP Workers, Assistant Managers and other CNP employees as assigned

TERMS: 187-day position paid following the board-approved salary schedule

JOB GOAL:

• To provide direction, planning, monitoring, and oversight of the local school CNP.
• To supervise, direct, develop, and evaluate CNP personnel and designated staff to ensure the quality and safety of school system food services that enhance student achievement and educational programs.
• To provide healthy, nutritious meals and food preparation services for students, staff, visitors, and community members of Pike Road Schools.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
3. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively in English.
4. Knowledge of CNP guidelines and regulations.
5. Ability to supervise, train, develop, and evaluate assigned personnel according to school system procedures.
6. Ability to use technology as required to perform job responsibilities.
7. Ability to operate and maintain kitchen equipment necessary for the performance of job responsibilities.
8. Strength, stamina, agility, dexterity, and acuity to perform job responsibilities safely and effectively.
9. Ability, agility, and stamina to engage in prolonged standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, turning, reaching, and repetitive lifting up to 30 pounds.
10. Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
11. Ability and willingness to work after hours, weekends, or holidays when necessary.
12. Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.
13. Ability to demonstrate leadership, organization, collaboration, and planning skills to accomplish school goals and job requirements.
14. Ability to possess and maintain food safety certification provided by the Montgomery County Health Department (be ServSafe Certified or earn certification within 30 days of hiring) preferred.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Work cooperatively and productively with the principal and supervisors to ensure the system’s vision, goals, and strategies are implemented and providing all pertinent data to all appropriate personnel within the designated timeframe.
• Supervise and assist in the preparation and service of food according to the written menu of the day.
• Outline specific duties and work schedules for school CNP personnel in accordance with school system policies and procedures.
• Post instructions for the use of equipment and schedules for the maintenance of CNP equipment.
• Rotate job duties to assure that each employee can satisfactorily perform all tasks in the kitchen.
• Maintain a file of standardized recipes and instruct CNP personnel in the use of recipes.
• Post menus at least one week in advance; adjust menus to accommodate commodity arrivals and/or vendor shortages as approved by the supervisor.
• Perform duties in a courteous and professional manner.
• Supervise and assist in the storage and care of food.
• Assist school CNP staff in interpreting the goals and objectives of the school food service program to students, teachers, parents, and community members.
• Maintain adequate and accurate records and controls including personnel, financial, inventories, operational, and purchasing of food, supplies, and equipment.
• Purchase food and supplies wisely and check orders and invoices for quality, quantity, accuracy of weight, and price upon delivery.
• Cooperate with health officials in supporting all local and state public health laws and codes.
• Ensure that all sanitation procedures are followed as they relate to the preparation and storage of food.
• Observe prepared food assembly to ensure that foods are properly portioned to meet requirements and that food is attractively arranged on trays.
• Model and encourage CNP employees to observe high standards of grooming, safety, and effective work habits.
• Use computer software/technology for assigned CNP operations.
• Maintain and submit reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
• Cooperate with other school system staff members in maintaining high standards in the CNP.
• Cooperate with principal, supervisor, and school faculty in planning, developing, and utilizing the dining room/cafeteria to provide positive learning experiences for students.
• Participate in and promote in-service training, conferences, and continuing educational programs for self-improvement and for other personnel.
• Engage in professional growth and demonstrate professional ethics and effective work habits.
• Maintain appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
• Demonstrate initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
• Respond to inquiries, requests, constructive feedback, concerns, and/or complaints in a timely and positive manner.
• Instruct and supervise employees during work hours, including instruction and supervision of the safe and correct use and maintenance of equipment.
• Oversee the locking of the storeroom and secure the cafeteria and work areas before leaving.
• Monitor the cooler and freezer units as needed/directed/required.
• Serve on school/system committees as required or appropriate.
• Use effective collaboration skills to work as an effective team member.
• Demonstrate support for the school system and its goals and priorities.
• Adhere to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations.
• Report absences and take leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force as needed to move objects. Requires the ability to work in temperatures from -10℉ to 80℉ on a daily basis.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the State Department of Education and/or Pike Road Schools Board of Education policy on the evaluation of classified personnel.
