Job summary

Medical City Dallas is seeking a Child Life Specialist PRN to support the developmental and psychosocial needs of hospitalized children ages 0–21. You will advocate for family-centered care, promote play, learning, and coping, and collaborate with the care team to ease anxiety during illness and hospitalization.

Qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Child Life or Child Development with a 600+ hour internship under a Certified Child Life Specialist; Child Life Certification preferred; and

Qualifications

• 600+ hours internship under a Certified Child Life Specialist.
• Child Life Certification preferred; eligible to sit for exam.
• BLS certification obtained within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide developmental care for hospitalized children age 0-21.
• Advocate for psychosocial, emotional, physical and cognitive needs.
• Educate staff and community on developmental needs and family-centered care.
• Advocate for policy and standards of care supporting children and families.

Education

Job Summary And Qualifications

Provides for the developmental needs of hospitalized children age 0-21 to include advocating for psychosocial, emotional, physical and cognitive needs. Decreases the anxiety and/or trauma with illness and hospitalization through interventions, which promote play, learning, mastery, self-expression, and peer interaction. Educates staff and the community concerning the developmental needs of hospitalized children, reactions of children to illness and hospitalization, and family centered care. Advocates for policy and standards of care which support the special needs of children and families.

What qualifications you will need:

• Bachelor’s degree in Child Life or Child Development or a related field and a Child Life internship program of 600+ hours under a Certified Child Life Specialist.
• Child Life Certification preferred or eligible to sit for Child Life Certification exam.
• American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS provider obtained within 6 months of hire.
