Job summary

Boston Children’s Hospital is seeking a Child Life professional to participate in therapeutic activities and programs addressing psychosocial and developmental needs, and to help patients adjust to health care experiences. You will work as a member of a multidisciplinary team to support patients from birth through young adulthood and to assist families.

The role emphasizes coping support during short and long hospitalizations, coordinating with staff, and contributing to patient and family

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Child Life, or related field with a concentration in child life.
• 600-hour Child Life internship under supervision of a certified child life specialist.
• Ability to apply child development theory and professional child life principles to practice.
• Strong writing and communication skills, including conflict resolution; teamwork.
• Child Life Certification required within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide coping support for patients with short and long hospitalizations.
• Support procedures, siblings, development, and bereavement as part of interventions.
• Maintain resources including ordering and stocking unit areas.
• Delegate work assignments to volunteers and participate in clinical training of student interns.
