The Child Life Specialist provides emotional support to pediatric patients and their families, implementing developmentally appropriate and therapeutic interventions to promote growth and minimize stress during hospital experiences. The role involves collaboration with the healthcare team across various settings including Pediatrics, PICU, Pediatric Day Stay, ED, and Pediatric Surgery.

Work Schedule: 2-8PM two days a week, 2-10PM one day a week.

Responsibilities
  • Provide child life services such as therapeutic play, education, procedural preparation, and coping techniques based on medical treatment and illness.
  • Assess patients and families to create psychosocial care plans.
  • Document observations and interventions in EPIC; participate in team care conferences.
  • Collaborate with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams to increase satisfaction.
  • Support department policies, supervise child life students and volunteers, assist with donations and events, and coordinate patient milestone events.
  • Maintain playrooms/teen lounges, restock supplies, and support patient care activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and adhere to organizational standards.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Child Life, Child Development, or a related field.
  • Completion of Child Life Internship as required by ACLP.
Certifications
  • AHA Basic Health Care Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Child Life Certification preferred; if not certified, eligibility and certification within 18 months of hire are required.
