Job description

Part-time Child Life Specialist

Schedule: 12 Hours/week, Day Shift, 11:00 a.m. - 11:30 p.m., Onsite

Compensation: $5,000 Sign-On Bonus (taxable)

Summary:

The Child Life Specialist is responsible for maximizing the physical, emotional, social, cognitive, and developmental well-being of children. They aim to minimize stress and trauma experienced by children and their families.

Responsibilities:

1. Plans and implements comprehensive Child Life services.
2. Prepares and facilitates adaptive coping strategies for patients and families during medical procedures and healthcare experiences.
3. Provides education and emotional support to patients and families; advocates and communicates their needs to the multidisciplinary team.
4. Provides education related to child development and the impact of hospitalization.
5. Supervises and trains students and volunteers.
6. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to care for patients' physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs across all ages.
7. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Technical Expertise:

1. Experience in a clinical setting as a Child Life Specialist is preferred.
2. Experience working with all organizational levels is required.
3. Healthcare experience is preferred.
4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
5. Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) is required; experience with Epic or similar EMR software is preferred.

Education and Experience:

1. Bachelor's degree in Child Development, Child Life specialization, or related field is required; Master's degree is preferred.
2. Certification: Certified Child Life Specialist within one year of employment; current Healthcare Provider BLS training required.
3. Completion of a 600-hour clinical Child Life internship supervised by a Certified Child Life Specialist.
4. 0 to 2 years of relevant experience is preferred; no supervisory experience required.
